“ALL-AMERICAN HIGH” MP3
written during the attacks on Iraq…… it seemed to me that we were losing sight of the fact that wars cause people to die, and that all governments should be accountable to those who empower them. The only cut done in Tampa with some good musician friends... got it on take one.”

“MARY ANN” MP3
written especially about my relationship with my wife, but about any interpersonal relationship based on love and respect. It pays homage to Terry Gilkyson’s song “Memories Are Made of This” and his own “Mary Ann”…

“NO OTHER MAN” MP3
a rock ballad like a million others that cry the despair of heartbreak…”oh baby, give me one more chance…” this one came along after recalling my experience of singing in the studio with John Lennon…

"FIRST GENERATION ROCK 'N ROLL" MP3
I've always been proud of the fact that the birth of rock-n-roll in America coincided with my teenage years. the fact that I still can earn a living playing music i love makes me a very lucky man indeed. did this cut just on acoustic guitar, but am planning a bigger/band production of the song."

“SWEAR THAT I LOVE YOU” MP3
a jazzier version of “oh baby, give me one more chance” written while house sitting Rick Roberts’ place in Boulder. He was trying to get back together with a lady in Miami, and I caught this song one night……

“STEALIN’ HORSES” MP3
a co-write with Jim Salestrom & Dugg Duggan back in Denver… it began as a commentary about “leaders” like Jim Jones and David Koresh at Waco, but became timely again with Haley-Bopp, and again several times with other socio-religious, political events over the past few years, wherein people are mislead after responding to a need that gets exploited by power-crazed despots. In a bigger picture, it represents the shame of weak-minded shallow leadership and the sadness of the extreme need to be part of a cult, especially when righteousness needs justification…

"OL' KENTUCKY" MP3
wrote this one with my old friend Dick Weissman, whom I met during the big folk music scare of the early sixties when he was in the popular trio 'The Journeymen' along with Scott Mackenzie of "If You're Going to San Francisco" fame and John Phillips of the
'Mamas & the Papas", with whom i toured.

“TO SEE YOU SMILE” MP3
as a songwriter, one learns to “be prepared” for whatever the subject matter wants to be… in this story, a jealous guy who’s had too much to drink pays a heavy price for a moment’s rage…

“HIGH HEELS ON ICE” MP3
while walking with his girlfriend, in Boulder, CO, after a winter storm, my friend Kyle Norwine heard her say, “not so fast, it’s like dangerous walking in high heels on ice”…. We expanded the concept to mean that getting involved with drugs (referred to as “she/her”), and trying to maintain one’s sanity is a dangerous situation…

“SAFE IN YOUR ARMS” MP3
a co-write with Chris Daniels in Boulder, CO…… I’m sure most songwriters would agree… you start with something in mind and before you’re done, the song is telling you what needs to be said… written from the viewpoint of a soldier half a world away, somewhere in iraq or afghanistan who doesn't understand the politics and policy and just wants to get the hell home

“5a.m. BLUES” MP3
my take on a lot of old blues tunes, except this one’s chord pattern keeps evolving. It starts in the delta but is soon heading to the big city… Kal David and Johnny Lee Schell sure do know the way….

“GOODBYE GATSBY” MP3
an old one from my friend Jack Murphy, who has grown into a successful Broadway lyricist… I’ll admit to being another hopeless romantic, as is Jack, and this song touches my soul and speaks of a time that I believe we all can feel in our hearts…

Bonus Tracks Not On The CD:

“ONLY A FOOL” MP3
a combination of two songs, one by my friend Rick Roberts from the band FIREFALL, and one by me, both with the same title… Rick’s song didn’t have a bridge or a chorus, but terrific verses, so I combined them…

“DON’T PLAY ME NO LOVE SONGS” MP3
a co-write with Jack Murphy & Chuck Aarons when we were neighbors in L.A… another one written in two keys, one for the verse, and another for the chorus… I learned the rhyme scheme from Robbie Robertson.
